The re-modelled design of 400 South Oak Way (SOW) retains the main elements of the existing site, providing the setting for the building, while augmenting its presence at the junction of the three primary Green Park carriageways at the adjoining roundabout. The recently repaired and remodelled water feature continues to provide foreground interest. In still conditions, the pond provides a reflection of the 400 SOW building, or a more varied water character with fountains acting as a vertical focus.
Views southwards from SOW across the still water provide attractive reflections of 450 SOW, therefore, it was important to maintain an open edge. The existing deck has been renovated by a high-quality natural stone terrace with seating, contained by a new balustrade edge; this boundary has been designed as a feature element of the scheme, which is echoed at the front and rear entrances. The southern boundary of the pond retains a hard urban character (timber cladding continued along the rest of the wall), while the northern boundary offers a soft edge linking it to the broader landscape.
