St. Helen’s school is expanding to include a new state of the art junior school.  Located in a parkland-style setting, the school’s new two-storey building rises up out of the ground to create an intensive green roof on top of the new junior school.  The planted roof provides both an educational setting as well as outdoor classrooms that are linked to internal curriculums. Due for completion in autumn 2016, the new junior school’s landscape will include a range of exploratory spaces; from flexible playground spaces to wildflower mounds to kitchen gardens. The new school’s planted, sloping green roof is set to create a stunning backdrop for the new school and its surrounding facilities.

In addition to developing the new junior school, a new playground has been created for the three- to six-year-olds. Centred on a wooden play ship – the HMS St Helens – the playground features a slide, imaginary play elements, a trim trail, boulders, recycled tyres and musical play equipment. Together these elements come together to form a playful setting for a nautically-themed playground.
