St George's College commissioned PLACE for landscape proposals to create a vibrant sense of place for the school’s new Activity Centre. The spill-out zone at the front of the Centre is bisected by a diagonal route which guides users to different parts of the school grounds. This creates a distinct pattern to the space in hard paving. The zone also provides socialising spaces with seating, a rain garden and decorative planting under tree canopies.

Visual corridors create long vistas between the main building and the athletics track. At the back of the new Activity Centre trees will be planted in staggered form under-planted with meadow grass. The rest of the landscape will be minimalist so that the new building takes centre stage.

Steps provide both a focal point and access to the back of the Activity Centre, and a linear link to the athletics track.  The design allows for the steps to be used for warm ups and slow/intense cardio exercises, as well as seating.
